| Article I | Name: The name of this organization shall be the Minnesota Area Association of Physics Teachers. |
| Article II: |
Purpose: The purpose of this organization shall include: a) The advancement and dissemination of the knowledge of physics, especially as it pertains to the teaching of physics. b) Affiliation with the American Association of Physics Teachers and adherence to the general objectives of that group. c) Affiliation with such other organizations as may be decided by a majority vote of the members present at an annual meeting. |
| Article III |
Membership: a) Membership shall be open to Members of AAPT and others interested in and supporting the objectives of the Minnesota Area Association of Physics Teachers, who work or reside in Minnesota or its contiguous states. b) Dues shall be ten dollars ($10.00) per membership year. The membership year shall run from September 1st to the following August 31st, regardless of when during this period the dues are paid. c) Emeritus membership shall be conferred upon retired members. Such members need not pay dues. d) Only members who pay dues or Emeritus members may vote and hold office. |
| Article IV |
Officers and Representatives: a) The officers of the association shall be President, the Vice-President, the Secretary, and the Treasurer. Their duties shall be those ordinarily associated with these offices. There shall be an election at the annual meeting for the offices of the Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Vice-President shall become President of the association for the year following his term as Vice-President. b) There shall be one elected representative to the National Council of the American Association of Physics Teachers and one elected representative to each of the organizations with which affiliation has been voted as in Article III, section (c). These representatives shall be elected at the annual meeting. c) If vacancies should occur in the offices or representatives, replacements shall be appointed by the Executive Committee. Persons so appointed shall serve until the next meeting. d) A slate of nominees shall be prepared by the Executive Committee and distributed one month prior to the annual meeting. Additional nominations may be made from the floor. |
| Article V |
Committees: a) The Executive Committee shall consist of the elected officers and representatives. The Executive Committee shall have general supervision of the affairs of the Association between its business meetings, fix the hour and place of meetings, make recommendations to the Association, and shall perform such other duties as are specified in these bylaws. The Executive Committee shall be subject to the orders of the Association, and none of its acts shall conflict with action taken by the association. b) Other committees may be appointed to either the Executive Committee of the President. |
| Article VI |
Meetings: a) The annual meeting shall be held each spring at a time and place to be determined by the Executive Committee. b) Other meetings may be arranged by the Executive Committee. c) Notice of all meetings shall be sent by the Secretary to members and to others as determined by the Executive Committee. |
| Article VII |
Amendments: a) These bylaws can be amended by a two-thirds vote at the annual meeting, provided the amendment has been submitted in writing to the membership at least one, but not more than two, months in advance. |
